Control and Automation Engineering

Information about the Control and Automation Engineering course on Macaé campus

Professional Profile:

The Control and Automation Engineer should have a multidisciplinary training, enabling them to act several areas of control and automation.

The Control and Automation Engineer shall:

  • Have a solid background in basic and engineering sciences, considering that technological evolution is very fast, but with the understanding that technologies are grounded on basic scientific principles;
  • Get ready for professional development (continuing education) and go on to study in areas of scientific research and technological development;
  • Be a citizen endowed with critical attitudes, with the capacity for evaluation, judgment, initiative and instrumentalization for local and regional development, with ethics and respect for the environment and for the human being.

Scope of activity:

The course of Control and Automation Engineering is presented as a course with industrial emphasis, specifically in the design of systems of automatic controls for different industries, and enables the graduated students to build knowledge related to automation of manufacturing systems, serving the processing companies that work with mechanized and sequential operations (aerospace, automotive, sugar, food and furniture industries), as well as those needed to meet the demand for automated systems in production companies (alcohol, oil, petrochemical, cellulose, cement and nuclear industries).

In the oil sector, automation is a fundamental tool for optimizing production. The control and automation professional plays an important role in ensuring the competitiveness of oil and gas exploration companies.

The Control and Automation Engineer may have a work position in each and every company. From the production of basic inputs to the most complex, it is absolutely necessary to keep as much as possible both the characteristics of the environment (pressure, temperature, pH and others) and those of the product (thickness, shape, color, volume and others). This is achieved more effectively through the automatic control of the processes.

This professional may also work in industries that seek improvement of processes and greater productivity by means of the implementation of automatic processes that maximize the industrial production, maintaining or even enhancing the quality of the final product.
