Course Structure:

The Basic Area of Application (ABI) on "Sciences of Nature" allows the student to choose, after the third semester either the undergraduate courses on Biology, Physics or Chemistry. After enrollment, the student will attend a common curricular matrix, containing subjects from the pedagogic, propaedeutic and nature sciences and their technologies, during the first three semesters. From the fourth semester on, the curricular matrix becomes different for each course.

The Biology undergraduate student is a generalist, critical, ethical professional and a citizen with a spirit of solidarity. Holder of adequate theoretical foundation, as a basis for a competent action, which includes a deep knowledge of the diversity of living beings, as well as their organization and functioning in different levels, their phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships, their respective distributions and relations with the environment in which they live; such professional is enabled to act on Basic Education and able to continue their academic career through application to postgraduate programs. They are aware of the need to act with quality and responsibility for the conservation and management of biodiversity, health, environment, biotechnology, bioprospecting and biosafety policies and for the environmental management, both in technical and scientific aspects and in the formulation of policies, and to become a transforming agent of the present reality, searching for an improvement in the quality of life. They are committed to the results of their work, guiding his professional conduct by humanistic criteria, commitment to citizenship and scientific discipline, as well as by legal ethical references. They are aware of their responsibility as an educator, throughout their different contexts of professional activity. They are able to act multi and interdisciplinarily, adaptable to the dynamics of the labor market and to the situations of its continuous change. They are prepared to develop innovative ideas and strategic actions, capable of expanding and improving their area of expertise.
